Coffee + Ginger: Another Reflection

Saturday, May 27, 2023

It is currently a gray Saturday morning as I enjoy a nice hot mug of Starbucks pumpkin spice coffee. You might be wondering how and why I've chosen a fall flavor in the middle of spring, and the answer is that during Halloween time, I hoard a bunch of bags of ground pumpkin spice coffee to last me through the year until the following fall. It's my favorite flavor, and the aroma alone inspires intense Halloween and Christmas nostalgia; my favorite times of the year.

I have not posted a Coffee and Ginger segment here in quite a long time. I wanted to circle back and reflect on some things. It is fulfilling to do this every once in a while; I often write them once a year to keep those who are interested updated with where I'm at. It also helps to create an overview for myself in the grand scheme of things.

I never feel pressured to stay active on this site. As I have said before, most of my priorities are simply staying engaged on Twitter. No one is sitting on the edge of their seat couting the moments until I produce my next post or tweet. It feels nice to be able to go with the flow, and heart warming to know how many people have continued to keep up with my work over the years (coincidentally, today is my 6 year Twitter anniversary). So if that's you, thank you kindly! And if you're new, warmest of welcomes!

There have been a number of strides I've made throughout my research of Ginger's life that I am very proud of. I managed to discover a photo of the painting she swore in her autobiography would never see the light of day again (here), I tracked down the true cause of death of her biological father (blood poisoning due to an oral disease), and I have even been blessed enough to have spoken to a few people who actually knew or met her.

Although I am not spending every second of my free time writing and researching as avidly I used to, I am constantly pondering new ideas to write or tweet about (whether I see them through or not), what else I can do to progress with my hobbies, or new ways to stimulate my creativity involving films and research. In the near future, I do plan on posting an ongoing list of each of Ginger's television appearences (similar to her vaudeville performance list here), and in the far future ... Well, who can say? If you have been following me long enough, you know I once nurtured the dream of one day publishing some kind of biography of Ginger's life and career. While I don't quite see that project happening anymore as much as I wish I could, I just don't have the same motivation as I used to. I am perfectly fine sharing my discoveries here and on Twitter for more immediate viewing. And, come to think of it, the whole scope of my Twitter and blog is essentially a biography of her life in its own right.

As much as I enjoy researching anything having to do with Ginger and Old Hollywood era films, it can often leave me at a creative block, due to being just a little bit too niche to be able to fully talk about what I want to talk about. So, recently I came up with the idea of starting a second blog as a way of erasing that limit. You might have seen me post about it on Twitter, but you can find my new blog here. Right now, the title of that new blog is tentative and will likely be changed in the near future. I was in an excited hurry just to get it out, so although it does contain my first official article, it is still a work in progress. I am also still trying to re-learn Blogger so I can make it look more visually appealing. That blog will be a way for me to express my interests in not only films, but eventually video games as well, mainly those that belong within the horror genre. My sister is actually assisting me with that as well, and we had a lot of fun producing that first article together. Eventually I may need to create another Twitter for it (even though the idea of more accounts on social media is kind of stressful), but for now I will keep notifications of new posts on my Ginger Twitter until I can figure it out. Thank you for giving that blog a peek as well, it has been something I wanted to create for a while now. I have that seperate space so that I don't muddy up my Ginger/Old Hollywood space with things that may not be interesting to the vast majority of my audience. But no one quite has an audience when they first start making something. It's about expressing yourself, getting your thoughts out there, having a good time with what you're doing and improving your craft without the expectation of a steady stream of likes, clicks, or comments.

As always, thank you for your continued support of what I create, I deeply appreciate it. I hope I can continue to provide new information about Ginger that you enjoy reading, and thank you for sticking with me as I figure out what my path is.
